Trip overview

The Lower Dolpo trek paths are also known as Nepal’s “hidden gem.” You will pass through remote communities, historic monasteries, wildlife, and many other sights. The lower trip is the ideal trek for beginners, with a rich combination of natural beauty, admirable culture, and a comfortable trekking path. The lower Dolpo trip is stunning because of its arid landscape, largest national park, plentiful animals, highest waterfall, rural settlements, turquoise lake, steep passes, ancient sacred monasteries, fortified gompas, and glittering mountains. The walk also allows participants to experience the camp experience in the most diverse location in the country.

The region is endowed with pristine natural beauty which is a true blessing for hikers. Especially for those who are seeking to experience the unique culture and tradition of that particular area. The path from Juphal to Dho Tarap follows the lower Dolpo via alpine woods, agricultural areas, and traditional settlements such as Dunai, Tarakot, and Nawarpani along the Bheri River.

Despite being one of the most famous hiking destinations, the people of this region have remained untouched by the modern world. The people are exceedingly kind, humble, and respectful, and they still trade salt on yak caravans. We take the historic trading path from the high passes to the Shey Phoksundo, passing through a meadow and a waterfall along the way. Lower Dolpo is rich in exploration options, with lovable mixtures of lakes, mountains, and woodlands.

The Travel Bureau of Nepal has introduced an 18-day Lower Dolpo Trek itinerary. It leads you through one of the country’s most isolated places. These places are still developing, as you can see. However, the cheerful nature and friendly welcome will captivate you. You will need special trekking permits to do this excursion. Prepare to see inaccessible Himalayan locations coupled with breathtaking scenery.

Highlights:

  • The local Bon culture and unique way of life
  • The setting for Eric Valli’s film, Himalayan Caravan, Sky-burial, polyandry
  • Paincho and Parma (exchanging goods instead of money)

FAQs

  • When is the ideal time to go hiking?

The greatest trekking season is from October through May. Trekking in Nepal is best during the first two months of the dry season, October and November, when the weather is still agreeably warm. Although it can get very cold at higher elevations, the months of December, January, and February are still suitable for trekking. There may be snowfall in that location, making the walk difficult.

  • What about attire and dress while trekking?

We advise bringing clothing appropriate for both the heat of the day and the chill of the night. Lightweight trekking pants and T-shirts are appropriate for daytime trekking at lower altitudes. Additionally, since mountain weather is highly unpredictable, it is wise to wear gear that is water-, wind-, and heat-resistant. Thermal underwear, a thick fleece jacket, and even a down jacket will keep you warm on chilly evenings. It's crucial to wear comfortable shoes. They must be both reliable and cozy. Good boots are available to rent in Kathmandu for higher altitude climbs where you might have to walk through snow for extended periods of time. Try to avoid dressing in anything overly revealing or skimpy in consideration of local customs. The way you are dressed might have a big impact on how the locals treat you.

  • While we are trekking, are there any communication services available? Some of the settlements along the trekking trails have telephones where you can make international calls. Additionally, we offer a satellite phone for hikes at high altitudes.
