Trip overview

The Tamang Heritage Walk is a fascinating Himalayan trek that gives visitors a glimpse into the daily life of the Tamang people, who are Nepalese mountain inhabitants in the Langtang area. The 11-day journey begins in Kathmandu, where you will see UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Following that, we travel to Syabrubesi and begin our walk into the hilly region. Throughout our trek will learn about the culture and customs of the Tamang people. At the same time, we will enjoy the spectacular views of the Himalayas and the lively majestic Langtang valley.

The Tamang Heritage Trek route is a complete 11-day itinerary that includes the Langtang valley. Langtang is one of the economically weak valleys however it still manages to depict itself as culturally rich.  The villages such as Goljung, Gatlang, Chilime, Tatopani, Brimding, Nagthali, Thuman, Timure, Buddhism, and Syabrubesi are the best example of it. Tamang is one of the most culturally rich ethnic groups in Nepal whose dense populations are found in Dhading, Nuwakot, and Langtang.

Several hundred years ago, the Tamang people arrived from Tibet as horse dealers and settled in hilly portions of Nepal (typically around the Kathmandu Valley). They have kept their separate identity, with Tibetan roots and their own language. They have long been one of Nepal’s most neglected ethnic groups. Unfortunately, they were among the worst-affected populations during the 2015 earthquake, as their dwellings were in vulnerable regions shut off from assistance.

Trekking the Tamang Heritage Trail helps the Tamang people in their livelihood. Apart from that, we provide good prices for the Tamang Heritage Trek. Our visitors will fully facilitate by our local guides who belong to the same region and are more familiar with every corner of it. Our guide takes you around the heritage walk, explaining customs, people, history, and communities along the way. Follow the travel bureau of Nepal  Tamang Heritage Trail with us to explore the Tamang hinterland.
